By Shannon:
These few days has been weird in a fun and exhuasting way... firstly, Daddy was home EVERYDAY for 5 days! Doesn't he have to work to get money for my toys and clothes? Oh? Lunar New Year? What's that?
Anyway, Daddy is home everyday, and I get loads and loads of dresses to wear.... there's the purple and white dress from Po Po, my Cheena looking red chongsam from mommy, and my sweet ballerina dress from Aunty Wendy (Muak! Thanks Aunty Wendy! Everyone says I look like a pretty doll in that dress, until they see me in action, then they just shake their heads! Why leh?)
On top of that, we go visiting homes and homes aglore and the adults pass me red Angbaos and fiddle with oranges... AND! I get tons of goodies to munch on, like Po Po's famous HOMEMADE pineapple tarts... Yum yum... no wonder they sell like hotcakes every year!
Well, anyway, I'm still unsure what the big fuss is, and I am enjoying the home visits, and visitors to our home! But can I request that next year, I get to keep all the Angbaos instead of Mommy snatching it away from me everytime?
My First Angbao from Daddy and Mommy, but aiyah, dun look at that, look at my Cheena Chongsam dress!
These funny orange balls, what do we do with them? Gongsi Gongsi?
Gongsi Gongsi? I can do that! Okies, all done, so, where's my angbao?

Besides Shannon's chitter chatter about CNY, I must say that now with a small family of our own, and my grandma not around, CNY takes on a whole new significance. As our families grow smaller generation by generation, I realise CNY is no longer a crowded and boisterous holiday which I fondly remember. Perhaps Mal and I should put in more effort to keep those little family links we have left, and take the time, and YES! the effort to make it a point to visit everyone and all friends during CNY. Afterall, CNY is a good excuse to barge into people's home and say a BIG HELLO! Isn't it? It's time this little family started some traditions of their own.. :)
